June ’17 Sephora Play Unboxing & Review

Happy Monday Everyone!

I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend and are ready to dive right on into Monday head on (I know I’m not, but I’m telling myself I am anyways!)

I just got home from a week long vacation and to my surprise I had a Sephora Play box waiting for me on my bed as soon as I walked into the room.

For those of you who might not know about Sephora Play, it is a monthly subscription box. The box costs $10 every month, and in it comes five deluxe sample size beauty products as well as a bonus jonas perfume sample.

All of the products also come in a cute little draw string-eque bag that has a different saying/picture on the front. Honestly, I love these bags but since I’m getting a new one every month, I just have way to many. So I usually end up giving them away to a friend (or my mom) and they can find a use for it!

Besides the products themselves, there is always a small poster that tells you more about each product and exactly what it does, as well as a little card that you can bring to a Sephora at any time in the month to redeem a free 50 beauty insider points.

So enough about all of the things that come with the box, let’s get into the good stuff!

This month’s theme was “Your Summer Starters” and it was just another great box!

Up first? Tarte Tarteguard 20 Tinted Moisturizer

This was a pleasant surprise considering my favorite type of “face makeup” are tinted moisturizers. They are enough to bring some life back to your complexion but not heavy enough to be annoying throughout the day or bring on massive breakouts.

This little tube packs another punch though: SPF 20. This is a must now that it is the summer months and things are definitely starting to heat up. You can just slap on some Tarteguard and not have to worry about harmful UVA and UVB rays attacking your complexion, phew! This month, Sephora’s definitely got our backs (:

Second is.. Dr Dennis Gross Skincare Alpha Beta Glow Pad Gradual Glow

Now THAT is a mouthful.

At first, I really wasn’t thrilled about this because it is basically a single wipe that comes individually packaged. Now normally, when I get these boxes, some of the samples will last me multiple uses, so of course I wasn’t super happy that I had only gotten one but as I looked closer (and got past the excitement I have when getting these boxes), I realized there are actually more than just the one I thought I got!

So then of course I was excited again and totally in love with this product because it is specifically for your face, and as someone with skin that is prone to breakouts, I’m always hesitant to ever put self-tanner on my face unless it is specifically designed for that.

These pads are packed with Vitamin D which is supposed to provide nourishment to the skin for long summer days, and it is also a buildable glow which, I don’t know about you guys, but sounds totally good to me!

So basically? I’m pretty thrilled about these. Now maybe when I use my St. Tropez tanner, there won’t have to be such a disconnect from the neck up.. or here’s to hoping anyways!

Next on the menu is.. Bumble and Bumble Don’t Blow It

Okay, so now believe it or not, I was crazy about this one. I don’t tend to use the hair products that are included in these boxes unless it is some type of hair mask/treatment for in the shower so this one will probably just go in the discard/give to mom pile.

I believe, from the packaging that this is meant to enhance the texture of your hair while also combating things like frizz.

So in theory, this sounds great, but also I have crazy hair and am weary to think that this would actually do anything to keep it tamed on those insanely humid PA days. But also, maybe I’ll give it a try, who knows!

‘Don’t Blow’ Your Chance to Snag This ASAP

Fourth up is.. Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick in K-Dub

Okay, so this is amazing. ‘Nuff said.

If y’all haven’t figured it out yet, I’m lipstick obsessed. Especially when words like ‘Matte’ and ‘Long-lasting’ are involved, which spoiler alert: they are!

I love that this is like a fuscia/radiant orchid shade and it is PERFECT for summer. Definitely a bright, colorful shade that I personally think would look good on so many skin tones, so kudos to Sephora for throwing this bad boy into the mix!

Also, not to try to be shady or anything but it looks almost identical to the new Kylie Lipkit (June Bug) that she released for her Vacation Collection, so if you are ever unable to get that shade, check out this as an alternative that is just as good!

And last, but certainly NOT least is.. Briogeo Curl Charisma Rice Amino + Avocado Leave-In Defining Creme

Alright, so I know I just said how I’m not super crazy about too many hair products in these boxes (and I’m not), but I’m so excited to try this one out.

First of all, it’s a brand I’ve never heard of before so I’m excited to see how it holds its own. Especially since some of my favorite products from these boxes tend to be from brands that are not the ‘mainstream’ ones.

Second of all, you all read the word ‘avocado’ right? Because that’s all I needed to see to be totally sold.

I believe this product is meant to be evenly distributed throughout damp hair, and sort of gives me a ‘leave-in conditioner’ vibe. It is supposed to also combat frizz and leave the hair feeling moisturized, which considering the ingredients, I think that it will live up to the expectation, but of course, I can get back to you all later on that (:

Avoca-don’t Mind If I Do!

And for the *BONUS JONAS* Derek Lam 10 Crosby in Blackout

Okay, so every month they always throw in a sample size perfume and I actually do appreciate these.

I know that at any given time you can walk into a Sephora and ask for a sample size of any perfume you want, so they aren’t really helping me out any, but I’m also the type of girl who buys the same bottle of perfume over and over again so I don’t really have much variation in my non-existent ‘collection’.

So for me? These are fun. Unless you get a bad one, which normally doesn’t happen but I vividly remember getting a linen scented one months and months ago and literally HATING it.

This one, though, is no exception. I LOVED this scent. And honestly? I might even consider buying a full size of it because it’s absolutely intoxicating. It’s under the fragrance family of ‘Earthy and Woody’ and some of the most prominent notes are Osmanthus and Chai Tea Essence.

I also adore the back story behind the brand. Allegedly, Derek Lam is a fashion designer living in NYC (ugh, living the dream more like it), and he debuted a collection of fragrances that are all inspired by different scenes he observed from his Soho studio on Crosby Street.

I mean, how COOL is that?! Because, I think that’s pretty awesome.

10/10 WOULD Recommend

So my final thoughts?

This was another good box!

I’ve been getting the Sephora Play boxes for about a year now and honestly, there are very rarely a box that lets me down. Even if I get a product that I might not love, I know I can always give it to a friend or family and they will find some use for it.

I also think the box is totally worth it cost-wise. I mean $10 for all of this stuff that will sometimes last quite a while is a total steal. Every month is different and you might end up with really popular brand name signature items or you might end up with brand new releases that you get to try out before going and spending an arm and a leg on it. Also, to put it into perspective, if you were to go to Sephora and buy one of these deluxe travel size samples, at the very least it would cost you $10, so you’re getting five things for a very reasonable value. Plus of course you get the joy of receiving a brand new box with new items every month!

It’s a win-win!

So I hope you all enjoyed this different type of post and, again, are having a fabulous Monday (we’re already one day closer to Friday woohoo)!

But, until next time..
